Qoggle

While on lockdown in CA (USA) during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic my wife and I found ourselves wanting to play a game. The game that this game resembles was too loud to play while the baby was asleep... what with the shaking of pieces. So we coded this up.

Rules:

  • Click "Shake it!" to start a round
  • Rounds last 3 minutes
  • Write down the words you find in the jumble on a piece of paper, other players should each use their own paper while viewing the same board
  • Words are formed from consecutive neighboring (diagonal or orthagonal) squares
  • Once the timer runs out each player reads through their words to the group, any words that other players got are crossed out on everyone's sheets
  • While reading the words, they can be checked against a dictionary for spelling and checked on the board for placement validity (click on the game board to remove the overlay that pops up at the end of the game)
  • Words are scored as follows:
    • 4 letters: 1 point
    • 5 letters: 2 points
    • 6 letters: 3 points
    • 7 letters: 5 points
    • 8+ letters: 11 points
  • Everyone tallies up their points, only counting words that no one else got, and the winner is the one with the most points
  • We usually play 5 rounds and whoever has the largest grand total at the end is the winner. To start a new round just click "Shake it!" again
